Managing Opted Out and Suppressed Targets
This article provides guidance on how to manage opted-out and suppressed targets using the Opted Out Targets screen in the platform. This is the section where you can handle contacts who have opted out of your communications or been suppressed due to compliance reasons. Maintaining these lists is essential to ensure regulatory compliance and customer trust.
Screen Overview
The Opted Out Targets screen (available under the Audiences tab) is designed to manage and upload lists of contacts who no longer wish to receive communications or have been suppressed. This tab is critical for maintaining compliance with privacy regulations and ensuring that your marketing efforts are respectful of customer preferences.
Main Components
1. Opted Out Targets/Suppressed Domains Tabs
At the top of the screen, you’ll find two main tabs:
Opted Out Targets: Displays the list of contacts who have opted out of receiving emails, SMS, or other communications from your campaigns.
Suppressed Domains: Displays a list of domains where all communications are blocked (for example, organizational policies that prevent communication to a particular domain).
2. Upload Opted Out/Suppressed Targets
You can easily upload a list of contacts or domains that need to be opted out or suppressed by using the Upload Opted Out/Suppressed Targets button. This feature allows you to ensure that all targets who have requested to opt out or must be suppressed are correctly added to your database.
3. Suppressed Target Count
To the right of the "Opted Out Targets" title, you'll see a count of the total number of suppressed targets. This is an easy way to keep track of how many contacts have been suppressed globally across your campaigns.
4. Search Bar and Filters
Search: If you have a long list of opted-out or suppressed contacts, you can use the search bar to quickly find specific individuals or domains.
Refresh Button: Clicking the refresh icon will update the table with the latest information.
Filter Options: You can apply filters to view specific subsets of opted-out or suppressed contacts. For example, you can filter by date or other criteria to see only those who have opted out recently.
Empty State
When there are no records, you will see a message stating, "There are no records available." In this case, it means there are no opted-out targets or suppressed domains currently stored in the system.
How to Upload Opted Out/Suppressed Targets
Click on the “Upload Opted Out/Suppressed Targets” Button: A modal or file uploader will appear.
Prepare Your File: The file containing the contacts or domains should be in the correct format (usually a .CSV file). Ensure that the list includes the appropriate fields (e.g., email, domain, phone number) for suppression.
Upload the File: Select the file and upload it to add opted-out or suppressed contacts/domains.
Review & Confirm: Review the upload to ensure the correct records were added to the suppression list.
How to Suppress Domains
Click on "Suppressed Domains" above the table of suppressed users, towards the upper right .
Enter a domain name for suppression. All emails to this domain will be suppressed.
Review & Confirm: Review the upload to ensure the correct records were added to the suppression list.
Best Practices
Regular Updates: Periodically check and update your opted-out and suppressed targets to ensure compliance with data privacy laws and customer preferences.
Segmenting Suppression Lists: For better organization, consider segmenting suppression lists by email, SMS, or other communication types to ensure you're respecting customer preferences across multiple channels.
Data Accuracy: Ensure that uploaded lists are accurate and up to date, preventing any unintentional messaging to opted-out contacts.
